Copy protection

  • Subject: Copy protection

I've put the new copy protected Swagger onto my computer and ipod via
itunes
without any problems. I don't know anything about technology - it just
worked for
me without any glitches.

The problem I have with copy protection (apart from the warnings taking up
half the back cover of the CD) is that apparently the sound quality is
affected - not much point remastering something if you're then going to
copy
protect it. Also, I've recently been in Thailand where the CD copy stalls
were selling loads of pirate CDs with "copy protected" printed on the
inlays, so the protection isn't that clever anyway.

It would be nice if internet sites like Amazon and CD WOW would tell you
that something is copy protected before you buy it.

My CD player makes direct audio copies. The copy doesn't inherit any
zippy electronic "protection" which is weird but there you are.

I think the way it works is that you get mp3s or wmas direct from
the disk. What you can't do straightforwardly is play, or copy, the
decent quality CD audio.

Of course, it's actually easy enough to copy that if you do a little
bit of searching around. Just a pain.
