I appreciate that, I really do (honest guv!) but last time I checked, no-one was paying me a fee for 2 columns in the NME! ;o) And also, perhaps, to Rodney, that's as honest as it gets - sometimes the simplest of things can be the most beautiful (I think it was Coleridge who pointed that out?!)

I agree with yer Lisa. However, without intellectualizing, most critics would

it's all this complicated or constructed. ...Your best mates in a band

that rhyme for free!).

It's rock n roll, not University bleedin' Challenge guys!!

but a whole albums worth of wide-eyed simplicity? Does being knowingly
simple make you very post modern or just toss? Frightened at night was

Phil you're a brave man. Streatham these days by the way - so I'll be
round your house with £1.50 for it.

As I remember it a goodly portion of the lyrics were nicked from an
old Paul
Weller poetry book

Yeah, I've got a copy that somebody on the list made for me ages ago
from
their vinyl.

I...quite like it...but it's naive and very Billy Bragg. Serious
fans
only, I would suggest.

Rodney made one solo album, Happy Sad. I put a bid in for a copy
that
turned up on Ebay recently, but it went up well over £15, so I
dipped
out. As far as I know its never had a CD re-issue.

The only time I ever saw the Blue Aeroplanes in concert was at Navy
Pier
in
Chicago in 1990. Was anybody else there? They opened up for The
Church. Both bands were excellent, but the Aeroplanes' 3 guitar
assault, the interpretive dancing, and Gerard's manic
talk-shout-singing were what
really
stood out for me. After I bought a couple of their albums, I found
that I especially enjoyed the songs penned by "Allen." Is is
Rodney
Allen? I don't remember his first name. Does anyone know if he
has
any solo stuff available?
