I could write a short essay, but I'm busy at work, but it was great.
Good venue, sound was a bit iffy but due to the soundman not the venue.
Planes fans flew in from Norway, Holland and Germany and I endured a 4
and a half hour journey from hell to get theer (accident on M40) stuck
in traffic having been diverted through High Wycombe I nearly gave up
and turned back...the only think that stopped me was the traffic was as
bad in both directions.....and boy was I glad I didn't...sparkling set,
Angelo on fab form...because of the occasion maybe they seemed very
relaxed and did a few extended and slightly alternative workouts of
songs.....notably Angleo just rocked out on 'Frightened at Night' which
seemd to go on for about 10 minutes and put a great echo 'wah wah'
effect on '...and Stones'....full set with comment as follows....there
was no Wortek but we made up for his absence and Nev got up on stage for
the encore and danced like Tim Booth !

Broken & Mended
Pony Boy (strange to hear it so early...and given a more genlte melodic
treatment)
Spitting out Miracles
Jack Leaves (this was a bit of a struggle to be honest...i've never
liked it much and i went for a piss)
Frightened at Night (It rocked!!!)
Razorwalk ( got everyone moving)
Colour Me (full throttle workout)
Paper Plane (manic blurred wonderment...full force four guitar thrash)
Tree full of Starlings (tie to get our breath back but lost the momentum
of the night completely!)
Jack Hangs ( good attempt at mood recovery....we got our swing back)
Surreal Thing (excellent newy....I got my faith in you !)
and stones.......(breathless thrash)

encore

Raise the Roof....(stonking big guitar heaven...should be a single and
soon!)
Fun (it was)
Your Own World (jolly!)

2nd encore

Breaking in my Heart (words fail me, and they failed the band who
resolutely refused to do the backing vocals it was left to nev - by now
onstage with tamborine and Angelo to blurt out the odd 'Breaking in my
Heart')

We were al knackered at the end - got a great pic of Trevor and his son
slumped against the monitors....moshing with your son - how cool is
that.......

Gerard mentioned before Raise the Roof - 'This is one from our new album
due out later this year...and those of us down the front retored with a
'yeah yeah' as if we believ that one Gerard ! - We shall see.....

Phil H

PS I got home to south london in 2 hours 45 mins.....380 mile round trip
in one night ! But nothing when compared with the Norweigans who'd left
at 6am thursday morning to be there....
PPS Nev videoed the whole thing........so the campaign starts here for a
small scale DVD release ????
