I think in the States this might be a common thing -
alot of folks that were big Church fans walked away
from the Gold Afternoon Fix tour as Planes fans.
I personally like the Planes before that - but was
completely HOOKED after seeing them play live.

I have sooo many top bands that its impossible to list
them and feel its comprehensive.
But the Church and Blue Aeroplanes do top the list.

How about what are we all listening to right now?

For me its:
Chamber Strings - Month of Sundays - great pop band
that combines excellent melodies and a tinge of Burt
Bacharach! Just saw them with the Posies/Pernice Bros
and it was such an amazing show!

Cash Brothers - 2 brothers from Toronto that have that
wonderful sibling harmony thing going on. Their cd
"How Was Tomorrow" is just incredible. Think
Jayhawks/Wilco type alt country with lyrics that just
speak to you directly. "Nebraska" is a perfect 'end
of a relationship' song - and I can unfortunately
relate to that one.

Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun. I had avoided these
guys due to the "prog rock" label but after a friend
made me go see them recently in NYC I was hooked.
More bitter lyrics for the end of relationships...see
a trend?

Autoliner - Be. Power pop and perfect for driving
around on a summer day.

Autumn Defense - The Green Hour. More pop than alt
country but features one of the guys from Wilco.

Still waiting for my copy of the Chameleons "Why Call
It Anything" - it was shipped last week....
